The Coaching Brief
A very senior and experienced legal professional was experiencing a career impasse.
Here’s what he reported at his first session
I need to get ahead I want to get ahead but I seem to be stuck, I am anxious and my productivity is poor. It affects my personal life as well. I have spent years and years buying things and doing things to please and impress my partner. In spite of my partner constantly telling me that they love me for who I am not what I give them I still don’t believe or can’t believe it. It’s just a façade and charade. They are going to tell me that I made a mistake on my University results and that I failed.
What we did
We were able to uncover the core beliefs that were at the root of the problem. John was harbouring a very strong belief that had been running since he graduated from University: I am from the wrong side of town, I am just a poor boy, I didn’t really earn my success, they will find out and I will lose all of this.
How we did it
We dismantled and mapped out the old unwanted belief from there we dismantled the components of that old belief we examined them to assess their value in terms of the current goal and utilising a series of our neuroscience tools discarded and created a new supportive and empowering belief. Namely that he deserved to success based on the amount of effort that he put in.
What this resulted in
The ripple effects of this change were dramatic
- John was able to converse, network and participate with other Senior Leaders in his industry as a peer
- He stepped up into the next level of his career advancement
- John now related to himself as a successful hardworking Leader who deserved his own success
- For the first time in years he felt at ease, happy, more relaxed within himself,
- His personal relationship improved
